The cinder cone of the "red beach" of Acrotiri is an old volcano with a former lava lake. It is one of the older volcanoes on Santorini and of geological interest. It is also a famous photo point and beach area for the most tourists. Even there are signs, the most tourists ignore the acute danger of landslides and rock falls. There is an acute danger if you stay directly near the huge wall with its lava bombs and ash particles. Any moment there can be a rock fall due to the weak earthquakes that happen nearly every day. Keep a safety distance to steep rocks, the caldera edge and areas like the red beach or Vlyhada coast.
